ICDDR,B
Mission statement:To develop and promote realistic solutions to the major health, population, and nutrition problems facing poor communties both in Bangladesh and other countries, with emphasis on simple and cost-effective methods of prevention and management. Introduction:ICDDR,B is an international institute involved in health and population research and training, based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. In collaboration with partners from academic and research institutes throughout the world, the Centre conducts research, training and extension activities as well as programme-based activities aimed at addressing some of the most critical global health needs. In its hospital and clinical settings the Centre provides health services in its areas of expertise to the populations located within the research settings. The Centre has both national and international staff in the capacities of researchers, medical officers, administrators, health workers, clinicians, demographers, social and behavioural scientists, IT professionals and experts in emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, vaccines sciences etc. Since 1978, the Centre has shared knowledge and techniques with the global community by training more than 20,000 health professionals from 78 countries around the world. Population, health and poverty Areas of expertise:The Centre’s work is mainly based in Bangladesh but the research findings developed at the Centre provide guidelines for policy-makers in international agencies, implementing agencies in Bangladesh and health professionals worldwide.
