Consultancy services

The HRC provides consultancy services to DFID on request. The HRC’s areas of expertise include pro-poor health systems and public health including communicable diseases, HIV and AIDS, sexual and reproductive health, and maternal, neonatal and child health.

Typical assignments include country-based work on the design, monitoring and evaluation of health programmes and projects, support to policy formulation and strategic planning, and organisation of events such as workshops or meetings.

We provide these services at international, regional and national levels. The following examples give an idea of what we do.

Internationally

  • technical suwpport to global initiatives and DFID global partners such as GFATM and UNAIDS
  • technical reviews of international agendas, such as maternal health and HIV and AIDS within difficult environments, sector wide approaches (SWAps) and PRSPs
  • assessments of international aid flows and aid architecture.

Regionally

  • assistance in developing health sector or multi-sector policies and approaches on HIV and AIDS
  • review of regional initiatives
  • regional workshops such as the East Africa Health Management Information Systems Workshop
  • regional retreats for DFID human development advisors.

Nationally

  • working with governments on health systems development
  • needs assessments on national and local capacity to provide technical assistance in the health sector
  • national procurement plan development.
