New topic guide: Aid architecture (08/04/08)
This key issues guide provides an overview of the current state of the aid architecture in the health sector. It shows that the proliferation of donors, along with changing approaches for delivering and managing aid, has contributed to the challenges that donors and recipient countries face towards improving the effectiveness and impact of aid. The guide identifies ways of tackling these challenges at international and country levels.

The Health Resource Centre Rapid Response Research facility provides desk-based investigations to support your information needs. The service is free and aims to provide short term (up to one day) assistance on project or programme planning, produce briefings or policy papers, assist in the preparation for missions or meetings or get quickly up to speed with the latest debates on any issue. It is available for DFID staff only.
New topic guide: National AIDS Commissions (10/12/07)
This key issues guide examines institutional and governance issues as they relate to National AIDS Commissions (NACs), including structures and functions. The guide is divided into a background section that covers the history of NACS and an issues section which looks at the problems currently faced by NACs.

MeTa equity workshop

This meeting of the The Medicines Transparency Alliance (MeTA) arose from the recognition that there is much relevant work on different aspects of equity in access to medicines. The workshop aims were:
- Bring together wealth of academic and practitioner expertise on equity in access to medicines
- Sharpen thinking on poverty and equity issues in access to medicines so that MeTA processes and activities deliver objective of improving poor and disadvantaged people's access
A Synthesis of Institutional Arrangements of National AIDS Commissions in Seven African Countries

This paper presents a synthesis of institutional arrangements and issues currently facing National AIDS Councils/Commissions (NACs) in 2007. It reviews the governance and institutional arrangements of NACs as well as harmonisation and alignement processes. For each topic there is an analysis of emerging themes.
New DFID health strategy launched
DFID's new health strategy was launched on 5 June 2007 by the Right Honourable Hilary Benn. The strategy outlines 4 priorities:
- More and better: Delivering more resources for health
- Working together: Expanding access to basic services
- Making it happen: Improving the effectiveness of international funding for health
- Gathering the facts: Demonstrating results and building evidence of what works

Access to Medicines workshop
Gareth Thomas (Parliamentary Under Secretary of State) and Richard Horton (Editor of The Lancet) are jointly hosting a two day workshop from 19-20 April, to promote constructive dialogue on the current challenges in Access to Medicines.
Medicines Transparency Alliance (MeTA) stakeholder meeting
MeTA will work through national and international partners to support national efforts to enhance transparency and build capacity in medicines policy, procurement and supply chain management. The Right Honourable Hilary Benn MP (UK Secretary of State for International Development) will host the first MeTA stakeholder meeting on 18th April 2007.

A new key issues guide from the Health Resource Guide on Eldis explores issues relating to universal access to sexual and reproductive health services using a rights-based approach.
