Information services

The HRC information services include searchable databases of:

The purpose of the HRC information services is to provide DFID staff with a resource to support the development of ongoing programmes and the knowledge aspects of professional standards laid out in the Competency Framework of the DFID health cadre. These services are made publicly available to support a wider audience of development policy makers and practitioners.

The Health Resource Centre works in partnership with the IDS Health & Development Information Team to provide the HRC information services. The HRC does this by building on and contributing to existing services: the Health, Health Systems and HIV and AIDS Resource Guides on Eldis and id21 Health.

Health Resource Guide on Eldis

The Health Resource Guide provides comprehensive and cross-cutting coverage of key health topic areas including:

  • maternal and newborn health
  • child health
  • sexual and reproductive health
  • nutrition
  • health promotion
  • gender and health
  • TB, malaria and other communicable diseases.

In-depth coverage focuses on:

  • sexual and reproductive health and rights
  • maternal and newborn health
  • health in emergencies.

Health Systems Resource Guide on Eldis

The Health Systems Resource Guide provides comprehensive and cross cutting coverage of key health systems topic areas including:

  • health, poverty and vulnerability
  • gender and health systems
  • international policy and aid financing
  • national health sector financing
  • global initiatives and public-private partnerships
  • access to medicines and international issues
  • health service delivery
  • governance and health.

The Health Systems Resource Guide features 3 detailed dossiers on cross-cutting issues:

  • Human resources for health, developed in collaboration between the DFID HRC, World Bank and World Health Organization.
  • Meeting the health-related needs of the very poor, developed in collaboration between the DFID HRC and the Institute of Development Studies.
  • Health in transition economies, developed in collaboration between the DFID HRC, Curatio International Foundation and the Institute of Development Studies.

Additional in-depth coverage focuses on:

  • market development approaches to reproductive health
  • service delivery in difficult environments
  • user fees for health
  • health management information systems
  • social health insurance
  • drug regulation.

HIV and AIDS Resource Guide

The HIV and AIDS Resource Guide provides comprehensive and cross cutting coverage of key topic areas including:

  • AIDS communication
  • children and young people
  • gender
  • people living with HIV and AIDS
  • prevention
  • sexual and reproductive health
  • treatment and care
  • vulnerability and rights

In-depth coverage includes:

  • sexual and reproductive health
  • nutrition
  • violence against women
  • microbicides
  • the female condom
  • orphans and vulnerable children
  • antiretrovirals.
