This paper reviews the range of tools used in collecting data on health and socioeconomic status and argues that very few of these methods are capable of providing information about the health of the very poor.

Becoming poverty-focused: implications for health
This paper explores approaches to understanding the links between poverty, vulnerability, exclusion and demand for health care, and outlines strategies to encourage an inter-sectoral and inclusive approach to health improvement and poverty reduction strategies.

Allocating public resources for health: developing pro-poor approaches
This paper focuses on the allocation of public resources, and the extent to which different approaches enable poor people to access essential services. It attempts to set out how a country might begin to allocate public resources in ways which promote better access by the poor to essential services.

Which health policies are pro-poor
This paper is an initial working paper from IHSD as the first output of work on pro-poor health policies. The work represents an attempt to look at the options for health policies and health system developments which can improve the health of poor people.
